Anthony Chavez Looks to Come Home a Winner August 26 From Tacoma, WA

Anthony Chavez Fights in the Main Event - August 26; 2023 at Emerald Queen Casino - Tacoma, WA

Anthony Chavez (11-3-1) from San Bernardino, California is going to Washington…the state that is, and is seeking his 3rd consecutive win after hitting a few bumps in his career. His opponent, Austin Brooks (10-0-0) from La Mesa near San Diego, appears to be a formidable opponent who has been on the winning side from day one of his professional career. This is going to be a good but tough fight, how tough and for whom depends just how the fight goes. How did two Southern California fighters end up with a fight in Washington? It may be an interesting question, but it's not unheard of. Fighters who want to fight go wherever an opportunity takes them. Anthony’s last fight was in Denver, Colorado, where he won by unanimous decision.

Anthony’s first pro fight was on March 28, 2017 on a PBC event in Northern California at the Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino. The main card of the fight was televised on Fox 1 and Anthony’s fight was the designated swing bout (used to fill the televised air time if the other fights end too soon), not bad for a debut fight, though it wasn’t needed and his fight never aired. His next 7 fights were closer to home, all in the greater Los Angeles-San Bernardino area, and he won all of them, achieving a record of 8-0-0, before suffering his first loss in 2019. Anthony had a rebound win in 2020 on a Top Rank card at The Bubble/MGM Grand in Las Vegas. And this time, his fight was televised–during the pandemic at a time when there were few fights to be found. After that, a draw and two losses demonstrated how personal life issues can certainly affect in-ring performance.

Anthony has since worked hard, securing a win in his last 2 fights after deciding he needed to get serious about being a professional boxer. He said he’s changed his diet and some of his personal habits, and now he even has a strength and fitness coach.  He feels he has arrived at a point in his life where can finally commit to the sport of boxing. According to Anthony, he was thrust into the sport at an early age, and not by his choice, but as an effort by others to deal with issues he was having at school. His taste for boxing took some 8 years to really acquire, and this latest adjustment is but a continuation of the process of developing the right attitude, interest and commitment to be consistent and successful. Let’s see if all of this change pays off as he squares off against an opponent, who at least on paper, looks tough. Another win will only further serve to smooth out his win/loss record and signal he is maturing as a fighter. However, regardless of the outcome of this particular fight, I think we will be seeing more of a new and improved Anthony in the future.
