Joet Gonzalez Aims to Come Home A World Champion From His Upcoming Showdown With Luis Lopez on September 15th in Corpus Christi, Texas

Joet Gonzalez (26-3-0) has the goal of becoming a world champion, and he aims to fulfill that dream with his upcoming fight againt Luis Alberto Lopez (28-2-0). The two opponents will come together on September 15 to clash over the IBF World Featherweight Title in the main event on a Top Rank Promotions fight in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Born in Glendora, California, Joet began his professional career on July 7, 2012 when he debuted on the undercard of Jesus Soto-Karass vs. Euri Gonzalez (no relationship) at The Hanger in Costa Mesa, California. With his father-trainer, Jose Gonzalez, and his brothers frequently working his corner, Joet has earned the reputation as a tough fighter who, to date, has never been knocked down and has never been stopped. His only 3 losses were all by decision, which included losses to Emanuel Navarrete, Shakur Stevenson, and then finally to Isaac Dogboe, the latter being the result of a split-decision.

During his career, Joet has held the WBO Featherweight International Title, WBO Featherweight Intercontinental Title, WBO Global Featherweight Title, WBA Continental Featherweight Title and the NABO Featherwight Title. According to Joet, the latter is the most meaningful as it was the first regional title he earned as a professional fighter. The NABO Featherweight Title was gained on July 13, 2018 at The Novo at L.A. Live. Joet (then 19-0-0), fought a formidable fighter from Tijuana, Rafael “Big Bang” Rivera (then 25-1-2) where the two vied over the vacant title. A split decision from the judges went Joet’s way.

Joet has been managed by Frank Espinoza from day one of his professional career. Frank is highly respected and is well known for his visible presence and the high level of support he gives to his fighters, Frank manages many other fighters, including Oscar Valdez, and has well represented Joet throughout his career.

In 2015, Joet signed a promotional contract with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, where he remained a busy fighter for 7 years, fighting mostly in Southern California. In 2022, he opted to sign with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions, which has availed him some higher profile fight opportunities around the country including this upcoming fight date in Corpus Christi.

After 11 years as a professional boxer, 29 bouts fought, with 26 wins and 15 of those wins by KO, 29 year old Joet Gonzalez is looking for a career defining moment when he can finally strap a new belt around his waist, have his hand raised as the winner, and be declared a world champion. And so on July 7, 2012, when I sat ringside and watched 18 year old Joet Gonzalez win his debut fight by a unanimous decision, little did I know I would be witness to the level of success he was about to achieve over the coming years…but I bet he and his family did!
